I sometime find myself asking this question – Am I too old to start creating my own brand? I have such a yearning desire to really get out there and get it to the next level but I have that fear on being frowned upon as the old lady trying to compete with a younger generation.
USA Today posted an article from Benjamin Pimentel from Nerd Wallet – He stated that Baby Boomers may have a greater passion for entrepreneurship than younger generations. He also said that in 2014 those ages 55 to 64 had a higher rate of new entrepreneurial activity than the stereotypical risk-taking 20 to 34 age group.
Now this should be pretty encouraging for those who feels like they must compete with the younger generation to make their mark in this world of social media phenomena. According to a study published by Kauffman Foundation and Legal Zoom, a desire to work for oneself and create a business that is meaningful and has social impact at this stage of life, combined with a job market that makes it tough for workers over 50 to get hired, has clearly pushed more people to pursue the entrepreneurial path.
So if there are others out there like me that have a yearning desire to start a business, or are trying to create their own brand, then I say go for it. I am… You are not alone, there are more than 54% other Baby Boomers building their own as well. Let’s make our future bright by turning our dreams into goals. Let’s continue to grow as one of the fastest groups of entrepreneurs the U.S. as ever seen.
